Coffee Dispensing Platform
An intelligent coffee dispensing platform featuring ESP-NOW networking, precision weight measurement, distributed ESP32 controllers, automated dispensing, inventory management, and industrial communication for commercial coffee systems.
Project Overview
The Smart Coffee Dispensing & Inventory Management Platform was developed as a complete embedded automation solution for commercial coffee dispensing systems.
The platform enables customers to select their preferred coffee type through a wireless HDMI touch display while the system automatically controls dispensing, measures the exact coffee weight using load cells, and manages inventory across multiple coffee silos.
Built around a distributed ESP32 architecture, every dispensing module communicates wirelessly using ESP-NOW while remaining connected to the central controller through industrial RS-232 communication, creating a scalable and reliable smart dispensing system.
Client Requirements
The client required a system capable of:
- Managing up to 16 coffee silos.
- Wireless communication between all dispensing units.

Main Features
Intelligent Coffee Selection
Customers interact with a wireless HDMI touchscreen to:
- Select coffee type.
- Choose dispensing quantity.
- Monitor dispensing progress.
- Receive system notifications.
Distributed ESP-NOW Network
Each coffee silo contains its own ESP32 controller.
All controllers communicate through ESP-NOW, providing:
- Fast communication.
- Low latency.
- Reliable wireless networking.
- Scalable architecture.
Central Management Controller
A custom motherboard coordinates all dispensing units, synchronizes operations, manages inventory, and communicates with every module using industrial RS-232 interfaces.
Precision Weight Control
Each dispenser uses a load cell to continuously measure coffee output.
Once the required weight is reached:
- Motor stops automatically.
- Dispensing gate closes.
- Final weight is confirmed.
This ensures high dispensing accuracy with minimal waste.
Servo-Controlled Gates
Each silo uses dedicated servo motors to precisely open and close dispensing gates for accurate product flow.
Smart Inventory Monitoring
The controller continuously tracks:
- Remaining coffee quantity.
- Active silos.
- Dispensing status.
- Refill requirements.
- Machine health.
RGB Status Indicators
Each coffee silo includes RGB lighting to indicate:
- Ready
- Dispensing
- Empty
- Error
- Maintenance
allowing operators to identify system status instantly.
Industrial Communication
The platform combines:
- ESP-NOW Wireless Communication
- RS-232 Industrial Communication
to provide both flexibility and reliable machine-to-machine networking.
Power Management
Dedicated power circuitry provides stable operation for:
- ESP32 Controllers
- Motors
- Servos
- RGB Lighting
- Sensors
- Communication Modules
